Letter 8

Dear you,
Last letter, I was focused on myself and my feelings. I needed to express myself, and writing helps me. I addressed the letter to you, but for the longest time, I struggled with actually sending it off. Despite the fact that I shared no real details, there were two things holding me back. The first is, should the person I wrote about read it someday, I would not want him to feel betrayed. Yes, perhaps there is no conversation between us now, but I respect what was in the moment, and I could not respect myself if I were to share conversations or real details that were only intended for my ears. So, I had to be sure I didn’t share much of anything, other than my feelings.
The second reason I wrestled with sending you my letter is simple. I have issues with admitting my vulnerability. What I wrote was authentic to my emotions; however, there was something inside me saying I shouldn’t be feeling the way I did, let alone reveal it. I’m harshest on myself. But I’m working on it. Hence, the actual sending of my letter to you.
But, really, enough about me. Or I’ll lose interest in my own letter. I want to focus on you. The lovely stranger who reads my letters.
I am wondering what you are like. Tell me something.
Do you like to take walks to clear your mind, only to end up sitting on a bench and people-watch?
Do you enjoy reading books, particularly nonfiction or historical fiction?
Do you wonder what you’ll end up accomplishing in life?
Do you ponder the definition of success?
Do you appreciate friends but only get close to a few?
Do you love nature?
Do you need a hug to change your mood?
Do you think my questions are shallow or deep? Do you agree that you’re the one who determines that very answer?
I’ve had a packed two weeks. I need to eat breakfast and head out. I’ll only be getting back around 9:30 pm, but I’ll make an effort to send my letter out then.
Before I go, though, one last question, I promise.
Do you smile with your eyes?
Yours Truly,
RCG
